New Look and New Facebook Page

I've been wanting to make changes to the website for a long time. Unfortunately, due to lack of time and resources I was unable to spend the time. Until now! As you can see I am using a new template that I was able to modify to my liking due to my knowledge in XML and Javascript. Love that as a computer techie I can take the bare bones of something and make it mine.

I am thinking of a graphic logo to replace the title and hopefully will be able to replace it soon. In the meantime, please take a look around and forgive the "in progress" of some of the new pages. I will eventually have everything completed.

I have also created a page on Facebook so you can follow the site either through GMail or Facebook and maybe, eventually through Twitter, although I'm not sure I'm going in that direction yet.

I truly hope you enjoy the new site and what I am trying to accomplish and above all I hope you are able to save money and time so you can use BOTH on the things that mean the most.

Amazon - Diaper deals!

I have done this deal once before but not to this extreme. I roughly paid $10-12 for a huge box of diapers. This time I was able to pay $0.36 for 180 diapers. That's right 36 CENTS! Including shipping!


Amazon offers a program called Amazon Mom where if you sign up for their subscribe and save(during certain specials) you can save 30% off your baby purchase PLUS get free two-day shipping through their trial Prime offer. Now when you sign up for the S&S feature you do NOT need to buy anything down the road. You simply wait for your items to ship and then go into your Account settings and cancel the S&S feature. This 30% offer is valid ONCE on each account. So you will need to create a new account (and new email might be necessary as well) to do this deal again.

Amazon also offers coupons in select family/baby magazines. This coupons can be used only ONCE and only ONCE per account. So I had to use my husband's account in order to use these types of coupons again. You can also only use ONE type of coupon per code. So if you have one coupon for 20% off and the code starts with YT and you have another 20% coupon code that starts with YJ you can use BOTH in the same transaction.


This is how I did the deal about 6 months ago. I used two 20% off coupons and the 30% S&S discount. Only THIS time there was an additional $10 off coupon in one of the magazines. So you guessed it...you can use all 3 coupons with the 30% S&S discount! The best part about these coupons...you can use EXPIRED ones if you were unable to get both 20% and a $10 coupon. I found two I had from January and I was able to use one that expired on 1/31/2011 because it had a different starting code then the newer one.

The steps to get the deal are:

Shutterfly - Photo Cards and Gifts

As many of you know I am a part-time photographer (amongst everything else) who enjoys taking pictures of my two girls and sharing the pictures with family and friends. Every year I try to find new and different cards or gifts to send to friends and family for Christmas. Target is now offering free samples on their website. They will offer different samples at different times and once you enter in your information for one product it will remember it for the other products on the page. You simply have to fill out a 1-3 question survey and in 4-8 weeks you get a free samples. You can also click on the link to get their coupons.

So I tried a new deal that I sort of knew about but until I talked to another SlickDealer (in person!) I never took it to this extreme.

We receive coupons every now and then for "FREE Marcal single TP, PT or facial tissue" OR $1 larger packs. So I stocked up on these coupons by doing exchanges with other coupon cutters and bought some on eBay for $0.10 a coupon. I had a total of 143 coupons!

Target - Cheap Bread

So in my quick trips at lunchtime I don't have a lot of time to search Target for new clearance or temporary price cuts (TPC) and match up with qs. Nor am I able to search for every deal I read about online...which is why I am there most workdays at lunch time. Takes me that long to find everything!

Today I was excited to discover that our Target has the Market Pantry "Demi French Loaf" bread for $1.15 and the full size French Loaf for $1.65 in our "expanded grocery" section. We are not a Super Target.

Pair this with the $1 TQ online and that's $0.15 for bread or $0.65 for the bigger one (which is 2.5x the size).

Not a bad deal!

There is also a $0.50 TQ for sandwich bread. This used to be a slick deal on their $0.85 loaf of sandwhich bread but they have raised the prices to $1.39 AND not changed the signage. So please be aware that you should scan ALL items to make sure they aren't trying to change things on you.

Bargain Hunting - The 411

The first rule is you can't do it all. Pick a few areas that you are most interested in and work those deals. So if you want to cut your grocery costs work on those deals and less on the "home goods" area...or vice versa. I like to rotate...so I'll work solely on groceries (particularly Shaws, for their double coupons, or Market Basket, for their low prices) and then switch. Right now I am doing items for the home...so the toys for Christmas deal, toothpaste, bandaids, etc.

The second rule is really just have fun. Once you start Bargain Hunting you will become addicted and soon find that you REFUSE to pay full price for things...and will often wait something out until it goes on sale.

Coupons Broken Down:

Next you can check the store's website to see if they have store coupons that can only be used in the store and "stacked" on top of that $1/1 coupon from the paper. Shaws and Target do this.

Next you buy the product:

- $1/1 coupon from paper (called MQ of Manufacturer Coupon)
- $0.50/1 coupon from the store
= $0.49 Out of Pocket (oop)

It's that simple.


Most people will say "I don't have time to do this" and I honestly can say "Neither do I" but we decided as a family that saving money in this economy was important so I spend time each night researching and reading posts to find ways to save some money. By doing this I have been able to not buy any toothbrushes or body soap in 3 years...and I still have another 3 years worth of supplies left. Now if I find a really good deal with little OOP I will buy more to add to my stock...but right now I am living off what I collected for 2 years.

12 cups Italian tomato sauce
6-8 cans (10-3/4 ounces) condensed "cream of" soup, undiluted
1 cup salsa
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Dairy
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups grated Parmesan Cheese
2 pounds fresh mozzarella, ½ lb cubed, ½ lb sliced
4 cups grated part-skim mozzarella cheese
2 cups sour cream
1 cup milk
1 cup butter
2 tbs. butter, melted
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
8 eggs
2 cups half & half cream

Bread and Pasta
2 loaf frozen French bread dough or Italian bread dough
2 packages (30 ounces each) frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed
1 cup uncooked brown rice
2 pkg. tater tots
2 lbs pasta (ziti or other small tubular pasta)
4 boxes cornbread mix
2 cups cornflake crumbs
2 unbaked pastry shells (9 in)

February Meals

After searching for a few days I found some of the recipes that we will be making next weekend for the month of February. Since I may end up working Sundays for the next 3 weekends (oh joy) we are making the meals a little early. We will make double batches of everything.
